Picture of the Month

April 2002

This 3 alarm fire occurred in the City of Pittsburgh on New Year's Eve day 2000. The fire was in the Northside section of town in a narrow alley and extended into both attached exposures. From a RIT standpoint, if this was the view from your standby area, what potential hazards do you see? What two immediate areas should you be keeping a close eye on as the RIT?

Let's discuss it in the forums. If you look closely, you can see a portion of Pittsburgh's skyline in the background.

This is a view of the same fire from the rear. A very different outlook. RIT members must make periodical walk arounds of the fire building, especially in the first 20 minutes of the fire. A member of PBF Truck 33 prepares to make a ventilation hole to assist in stopping the spread of fire.
