Firefighter Ron Coleman of the Berkeley Hills FD, Ross Township, Pa. cuts a ventilation hole in the roof of the historic Evergreen Hotel. The fast advancing fire took hold of the cockloft and required extensive truck company operations. Rapid Intervention Teams must keep a close eye on roof crews, especially when fire is showing near them.

The RIT should have a plan thought out in the event a firefighter falls through the roof into the fire below and protective hoselines must be available to create a defendable space around the firefighter.
